LINCOLN LADIES LEAGUE BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I - NAME

The name of this organization shall be the LINCOLN LADIES LEAGUE (“League”).

ARTICLE II - MEMBERSHIP

The members and substitutes of this League shall be members of the Lincoln Golf Club.

 

ARTICLE III - DUES

  1. Annual dues shall be due and payable at the May Membership Meeting for the ensuing year, unless otherwise designated.

 

  1. Substitutes shall not be required to pay dues, but shall pay for the banquet at the end of the year (if they attend) and shall not be eligible for prizes.

 

  1. If a member who is a substitute becomes a regular member of the League, the dues shall be required to be paid for the balance of the season.

 

  1. If any member quits the League before the end of the season, she shall not be entitled to reimbursement of dues. She shall, however, be eligible to attend the banquet, but will not be eligible for prizes.

 

ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS, QUALIFICATIONS, NOMINATIONS AND ELECTION PROCEDURES, TERM AND DUTIES

  1. The Officers of this League shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant-At-Arms.

 

  1. No officer of this League shall hold more than one office at one time.

 

  1. A candidate for the office of President shall preferably have served in one of the other offices prior to her nomination.

 

  1. Before a member’s name can be placed in nomination, permission must be given by that member to place her name in nomination.

 

  1. Nominations may also be made from the floor at the Annual Meeting, provided the nominee has consented to serve if elected.

 

  1. Officers shall be elected by a majority of the members present and voting at the Annual Meeting.

 

  1. Election shall be by ballot, except when there is but one candidate for an office, then the ballot may be dispensed with and the nominee elected by voice vote.

 

  1. Officers of the League shall assume office at the close of the Annual Meeting at which they are elected, and they shall hold office through the next Annual Meeting.

  1. In the event of a vacancy in the Office of the President, the Vice President shall succeed to that office. In the event of a vacancy in any other office, the Board of

Directors shall appoint from the membership an officer to fill that vacancy for the unexpired term.

 

  1. All outgoing officers shall transfer to the incoming officers the books and records for the current year.

 

  1. Any officer vacating an office before the expiration of the term shall, within two weeks, transfer all records of the office as instructed by the board.

 

ARTICLE V - BOARD OF DIRECTORS

  1. The Officers of the League shall constitute the Board of Directors, which shall be the governing body on all matters requiring actions between the Annual and Special Meetings. The past president shall be a member ex-officio of the Board.

 

  1. A majority of the Board of Directors constitutes a quorum of any meetings, and a vote of the majority of those present and voting shall constitute effective action.

 

  1. The Board may authorize expenses necessary to the welfare of the League.

 

ARTICLE VI - COMMITTEES

  1. Standing Committees shall consist of a chairman and additional members as necessary.

 

  1. Standing Committees of the League and their duties are:

  1. Banquet Committee shall make all arrangements for the banquet to be held after the close of the golf league season. The Vice President of the League will chair this committee and may pick her own members.

  2. Nominating Committee shall be composed of two members of the League, who shall prepare a slate of candidates for election at the Annual Meeting. None of the members of this committee shall be an officer and no committee member shall nominate herself for office.

  3. Rules and By-Laws Committee shall be appointed by the Board of Directors as needed.

 

ARTICLE VII - MEETINGS

  1. The League shall hold it's Membership Meeting the last Thursday in April at

the Lincoln Golf Club.

 

  1. The Annual Meeting shall be held the Thursday following the last night of League

play.

 

  1. A quorum of any Annual Meeting shall be those members present and voting.

 

  1. Special meetings may be called by the Board of Directors whenever deemed

necessary.

 

 

 

ARTICLE VIII - DISSOLUTION

In the event of dissolution, abandonment, or termination of the Lincoln Ladies League, any and all assets then possessed by the league, after current indebtedness has been paid, shall be turned over to the Lincoln Beautification Fund.

 

ARTICLE IX - AMENDENTS

The By-laws of this League may be amended by any of the following procedures:

  1. At any Annual or Special Meeting by a two-thirds vote of those present and voting, provided that copies of the proposed amendments shall have been given to the members at least one week before the meeting.

  2. At any Annual or Special Meeting by a four-fifths vote of those members present and voting, provided that copies of the proposed amendments shall have been distributed to the members prior to taking the vote.

 

ARTICLE X - ENACTMENT

  1. These By-Laws, Standing Rules, Procedures and/or amendments thereto, shall become effective upon adoption, unless otherwise specified, subject to review and approval of the Board of Directors.

 

  1. For required and record purposes, the following chronological dates are made a part of these By-Laws. (Secretary has dates and may be seen upon request.)

 

STANDING RULES AND PROCEDURES

 

ARTICLE 1 - STARTING TIME

1. The golf league will consist of teams of two players. The league will consist of two divisions, early and late. Early division will tee off between 3:30 and 5:00 and late division will tee off between 5:00 and 6:30 on Thursday afternoons. An equitable scoring system will be used as described below.

2. Play will begin the 1st Thursday in May. The season will consist of 15 weeks of regular play with a LLL event being held the Thursday that is nearest to the 4th of July.

 

3. (rev 8/06) In the event that a ghost score (player’s handicap +5 strokes) is used for an absent player (no sub obtained) the absent player will take no points. The opponent will take points earned. Any holes not played due to late arrival or when a player is not able to, or chooses not to complete a round will be scored as double par plus two.

 

4. If a team is unable to play a match, contact must be made with the opposing team to make arrangements to replay the match prior to the scheduled match.

 

5. Any team that does not play (both members missing) three times during the season shall be expelled from the League.

 

6. A maximum of 26 teams (two players) will be allowed on the Early Division (3:00-5:00PM tee off) and a maximum of 20 teams (two players) will be allowed on the Late Division (5:00-6:30PM tee off). (Rev. 5/03). Those persons already on one of the divisions shall have first preference for that division.

 

7. The Secretary shall establish a waiting list of potential players. If a team loses a player, the remaining player shall have the option of choosing a player from any of the Lincoln women members. If an entire team drops out of participation in the League, the first person on the waiting list has the option of establishing a new team. Special considerations can be made for a maximum of one-year leave of absence approved by the Lincoln Ladies League board. Any person taking a leave of absence will not be guaranteed their same time slot upon return.

8. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions will be awarded according to the total points accumulated by each team early or late. If there is a tie for either of these positions, those teams will have a playoff. Players involved in the playoff shall be responsible for reporting the results of the match to the league secretary the day of the playoff.  

ARTICLE II - CANCELLATION

  1. Cancellation of the League play because of weather or other reason will be the majority decision of the Board of Directors. Notification will be given to the Pro Shop and Club manager when league play has been canceled.

 

  1. If the groundskeeper closes the course because of certain conditions, this will automatically overrule the Board of Directors as to a “play or no play” decision.

 

  1. If all of the scheduled matches in either the early division or late division are not completed due to weather all scores in that division shall not count for that evening and all matches on that night in that division are eliminated. (Amended 4/24/08)

 

ARTICLE III - FEES

  1. The fees shall be set by the Board before the first meeting of the season. Fees shall include the cost of the banquet, trophies and/or prizes. An additional one dollar may be contributed for the “ringer”. Subs will pay the cost of the banquet only if they attend and will not participate in prizes or trophies.

 

  1. All dues shall be paid the night of the May Membership Meeting. If any member is unable to pay they may choose to pay on the first night of League play. All dues not paid by the third night of League play shall result in suspension of that player from the League. A new player shall replace the suspended player.

 

  1. The Secretary of the League shall be paid three dollars per player at the completion of the season.

 

ARTICLE IV - SCORE CARDS

  1. Score cards will be made out ahead of time showing the handicap strokes.

 

2. 1 point will be given for each hole won per person

½ point will be given for each hole tied per person

1 point will be given to the person who wins the most points per round

1 point will be given to the person who has the lowest net score

A total of 11 points per match, 22 points per round

+ indicates the hole is won

- indicates the hole is lost

0 indicates the hole is tied

 

  1. All score cards must be turned over to the League Secretary before leaving the Club. All scores and point calculations are final as submitted. Score cards must be signed by a player on each team to signify approval of the card as submitted.

 

4. If a match is played other than on a regular night, it will be the team’s responsibility to see that the Secretary receives the card in time for placing on the score sheet for that week.

 

5. A maximum number of strokes shall be allowed on each hole. The maximum number is two times par plus two. (Ex. Hole number 7 is a par 4. The maximum number of strokes shall be 2 x 4 = 8 + 2 = 10)

 

6. A match shall be defined as two teams playing a round of nine holes.

 

ARTICLE V - HANDICAPS

  1. The PGA pro shall determine the handicapping system to be used.

 

  1. All players shall begin the season with the handicap established at the end of the prior season. New players will establish handicap the first night of play.

 

  1. All subs shall establish a handicap the first night of play, and shall use her own handicap when she subs.

 

ARTICLE VI - SUBSTITUTES

It is the member’s responsibility to obtain a sub. Any Lincoln woman member shall be allowed to sub. No other Lincoln Ladies League player may sub. A list of subs shall be available from the League secretary. Only one sub per team is allowed.

 

ARTICLE VII - RULES PLAYED

League, Club and PGA rules are to be observed.

 

ARTICLE VIII - RECOMMENDATIONS

Anyone who has a recommendation or criticism of existing rules or procedures, should make them known in writing to the League Secretary or other members of the Board of Directors for further considerations. Such activity will help rectify discrepancies and improve the League.

 

 

 

 

ARTICLE IX - BANQUET

  1. The Banquet shall be held on the second Thursday following the last night of League play.

  2. Awards will be presented to the winning team.

  3. Election of officers for the coming year will be held at the Annual Meeting.

  4. This meeting will be held on the first Thursday after League play ends.

 

ARTICLE X – BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

  1. The Beautification Committee will be a subcommittee of the Lincoln Ladies League. The Sargent At Arms of the League will be the Chairman of the Committee. The Lincoln Ladies League Treasurer will also serve as the Treasurer for the Beautification Committee. All Members of the League may become members of the Beautification Committee.

 

ARTICLE XI - DISBURSEMENT OF LEFTOVER FUNDS

It shall be the discretion of the Board of Directors of the League to determine the disbursement of any leftover funds.
