League Setup and Rules:
The Epiphany golf league is open to both male and female players of all abilities who are able to play 9 holes in 2 hours and 15 minutes or less.
The league lasts for 16 weeks and may go longer if there are rainouts. This is a 16 week commitment.
If you can't make it on a given night, you are expected to arrange for a sub.
It is up to the individual player to arrange a sub for themselves. Please plan ahead and communicate with your partner regarding your availability and sub plans if you are going to miss.
Everyone on the sub list will be contacted to confirm that they want to be on the sub list again this year.
The sub list is posted on the web site.
Since green fees are pre-paid, subs will play for free. The exception is if a regular member will miss multiple weeks due to illness, injury, or other unforeseen circumstances. In those situations the regular member and the sub may negotiate repayment of the green fees to the regular member.
We will continue to play a shotgun format. Players are to arrive by 5:45 PM and precede to their assigned golf carts. At 5:55 PM we will be escorted to our starting holes by league staff.
Prizes will be awarded each week for various categories (longest drive, fewest putts, most triple bogeys, closest to the pin, etc.).
Men will normally play the regular gold tees on all holes.
Exceptions: 1.Ladies will always play the lady’s tees. 2. Senior men (age 70 or over) may play the senior (black) tees.
The maximum natural score is 3 over par on any hole. A maximum score is scored the same as a natural 3 over par.
Pick up when you reach 3 over par to keep play moving. If you pick up, mark your score as 4 over par and circle the score.
"Ready Golf" is encouraged at all times.
We will play every week regardless of weather unless the course is closed. If it looks doubtful, call the pro shop. If there is a rain delay, plan on finishing the game after the rain stops unless the course attendant tells you that play has been suspended for the rest of the evening.
We have a website for the golf league http://www.golfweb.ws/6756/. Place this in the “favorites” list on your browser and check it regularly for the roster, schedule, e-mail addresses, weekly information, sub contact information, scores and updates.
Ted Meyer will be handling the scoring responsibilities again this year.
Gimmies are up to the good will of your opponents. Mulligans are not permitted. Count all of your strokes and add penalty strokes according to normal golf rules up to 3 over par, unless you pick up before holing out.
There has been some confusion in the past about how to score an out of bounds shot: If you hit a ball out of bounds, golf rules state that you are to re-hit the ball from the original spot and add a penalty stroke. For example if you hit your drive out of bounds, you re-tee and are now hitting shot #3. For this league in order to keep play moving, you may opt to instead drop a ball where the first ball went out of bounds and add two strokes (a one stroke OB penalty and another for the distance). Either way an out of bounds ball is going to cost you two strokes.
Fellowship is an important aspect of this league and continues after the round in the “Bunker” restaurant. Please plan on staying afterwards for fellowship over a beverage and food.
In closing, this has always been a casual, low-key league. Our priority is Christian fellowship. Please remember that we are representing Epiphany Lutheran Church. Our conduct and character is what will make the most lasting impression with our hosts at Heatherwoode.
