How the USGA Groove Rule Change Affects You
Many of you have been wondering how the new groove rule will affect you. This is what you need to know.

  •

2010 PGA Tour & its subsidiaries must change to a less aggressive groove than the square groove. Everyone else can still play what he or she is accustomed to playing.

  •

2014 USGA adopts the new groove restrictions for USGA Tournament play (ex. US Amateur, Pub-Links etc...). Local golf associations such as Buffalo District, New York State Golf Association can adopt the rule when they are ready (may begin as soon as 2014). The Golf Associations and their committees will have the final say in when they adopt the groove change policy.

  •

2024 The new grooves are adopted for everyday general play. This will affect all players.

  •

The Big Deal is that those of you that enjoy how your wedges and irons react need to purchase new wedges this year as 2010 is the last year that square sharp grooves can be sold by club manufacturing companies. After 2010, purchases for square grooved equipment will have to come through individuals. If you can play the equipment until 2024 we suggest taking advantage of the pure stopping power of the current equipment. Call Troy or Rich to order those new wedges or irons sooner than later as current stock may disappear quickly (716) 357-6211.

  •

So, Why is there so much hype around the PGA Tour and Phil Mickelson?

The new grooves will spin 30% Less out of the rough than current equipment. Ping wedges made prior to 1980 had grooves similar to today's current equipment and were grandfathered in. Phil is trying to prove a point by testing the PGA on their policies and agreement with Ping.
